Frequently Asked Questions

REACTOR's objective is to provide high-quality programming and entertainment for attendees. We have compiled a FAQ list so that you can find quick answers to common questions. If your question isn't answered here, please feel free to post your questions and thoughts in our forum. If you prefer, you can e-mail us directly and we will answer your questions ASAP.

How Will You React?

Here at Reactor, we don't want to be "just another geek convention". We're tired of the same old things - cosplay, karaoke, presentation panels - it's all been done,a nd done to death. We want to encourage a good time, and a good time is not had going to the same stuff and being a fly on the wall. At Reactor, we want you to react - we want you to have a good time and participate in making it a good time for those around you. We want you to celebrate, with your fellow attendees, the glory of multimedia and the best of American and Japanese culture.

So what do we have to offer?

Fusion. We pay homage to the best of the Far East and Western cultures of multimedia - anime, manga, comics, cartoons, films, horror, sci-fi - we have it all, and we cater to a wide audience of people with varying tastes.

Innovation. If you've gone to conventions before, you have seen the "staple" events - the normal things you've come to expect from attending a weekend with a bunch of geeky folk. What Reactor brings to the table is a twist on events - an original flavor you're sure to enjoy just as much as your favorite drink. Seen Cosplay? How about Cosplay Idol, where the judges and audience participate as much as the cosplayers? Yawned through a panel? How about an interactive panel where the content is created as you go, and where you get to pick what happens? Been to a dance? What about Meltdown, where the dancing is fast and furious and the music is as changeable as a fashion model's wardrobe? These are just some of the events we have to offer.

Interaction. Ever been the wallflower at a dance, or been the last picked for sports because of a lack of confidence? Well, ditch that shell, because Reactor is an interactive event. We encourage participation, and we love it when the attendees get actively involved, because that only makes the event better! We've got things designed to help you overcome that shyness and we definitely love those who actively seek out and have a good time at our event (within the rules, of course!). From top to bottom, we want you to help shape the event, because it's just as much yours as it it is the staff's, perhaps moreso.

Celebration. Reactor's attendees will tell you - they know how to have a good time. There's always something happening at Reactor, and the result is that our folks go home with a smile on their face and some memories (and screwed-up stories - no, I have no idea how that donkey ended up in your room) they won't soon forget. Come with your passion, your desire to have fun, and your nerdy fanboyism for the geek arts, and you'll have fun at Reactor.

Reactor. You may love us, you may hate us,but you will be informed.

Detailed FAQ

We're a weekend-long celebration of popular arts from the east AND west, featuring the best in music, movies, animation, and comics. Reactor celebrates cool stuff from around the world.

2. How can I volunteer?
2. How can I volunteer? Volunteer positions will be updated in our "Staff Recruitment" Forum. If you feel you have talents Reactor can use, e-mail our staffing contact address for more information: staffing@the-reactor.org

Yep, but you have to pre-register. We will only make enough 4X shirts to cover those who pre-orders.

6. What's the name of your mascot?
Our mascot's name is GEM. She was created by Samantha Aquino. Gem is short for Gemeinschaft. Wanna know what that means? Look it up at Wikipedia.

7. I'd like to host a panel on subject (x). Will you have a panel about subject (y)?
If you're interested in hosting a panel, or you have an idea for a great panel, contact Frank So, Programming Director, at fso@the-reactor.org. You're also welcome to discuss any ideas you may have in the "Programming" area of our forums.

8. I've heard stories about your events. Is REACTOR family-friendly?
Definitely. REACTOR will enthrall and entertain fans of all ages. In fact, Sunday at Reactor is Family Day!

To help parents plan their convention activities, keep in mind that most family-friendly programming will be during the day and early evening. The later an event is scheduled, the older its intended audience is for the evening. Enjoy the video rooms, panels, and workshops with the whole family, but put the kids to bed for programming like Otaku Big Date and Cosplay Idol.

As a rule, Reactor will feature all ages programming from 6 AM to 6 PM. Programming starting from 6 PM to 10 PM will be for teens and up. Programming starting after 10 PM may be adults only. Please consult the Reactor program guide for event-specific information. Any event that is not appropriate for all ages will be noted in the convention program guide.

9. Who can I talk to for more information?
The Contacts page has all the information for people you need to get in touch with.
